A place for art and inspiration
Kallergos, is a small village, located in the center of Crete at a distance of 1/1.5 hours drive from major cities and airports.
The house is also about 22 km from the Venetian-era port town - Rethymno
Driving for approximately 13 km you will reach two stunning beaches - Geropotamos beach, Spilies Beach
The house is Close to The Potters Village Margarites, Arkadi Monastery, Melidoni Stalactite Cave and, Eleutherna which is a museum and archaeological Site
In a short drive, you will find the Patsos Gorge canyon, the town of, Spili and the beach of Preveli
Lastly, it’s about 5 km to Perama which is a small town that you can shop, dine, and find other services you might need.
The History
A traditional stone house that was built between 1820-1921 and was abandoned in 1985
Many characteristics of life in rural areas were found in the house: a well, a wine press for treading grapes, niches for storing wine and olive oil, a wooden fireplace for heating the house, a wooden stove for baking bread, tools, weaving tools and various accessories for animals.
Its older part, which was the roof and completely collapsed, was used to house the animals
The House - Today
Recently renovated from the ground up to be able to serve as a hostel for different types of accommodation.
The house, about 120 square meters, has a living room, a dining area, a kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The kitchen is equipped with appliances. Fans and air conditioning can be found in all rooms. The house also holds a solar water heater and a laundry room.
The outdoors
There is an inner courtyard from which from there you can enter the ground floor or climb the stairs to an upper balcony.
The house also holds a back porch at the rear of the bedroom There is also an upper balcony that is accessible from the living room that has a great view of the mountains and the olive groves.
Coming soon , the house will also contain pergolas that will be combine with climbing vegetation.
The garden is about 1,500 square meters and has 25 olive trees and a well.
Soon we will also build a vegetable garden and plant additional fruit trees of various kinds.
Accommodation
1 bedroom with double bed and ensuite bath
1 bedroom with 2 adjoining/separate single beds
1 sofa in the living room that converts into a double bed
An adjacent neighbor’s stone house, with accommodation for up to 4 people
There are many more different types of accommodation in the area.
Workshop area
3 rooms/spaces which were initially used for the occupants of the house and later to house the animals.
All the walls and openings have been renovated and restored from the ground up. Now they can be roofed with tiles and converted into all types of workshops.
Collaborations
We are looking for people who are interested in renting the house for short periods and want to perform various activities there.
If possible, we will be happy to adapt the place to your needs.
We will be very happy to elaborate even farther about the house and all its usage options. In addition, we will be more than happy to contribute from our knowledge about flights, car rental, economy, etc.
